Oisin Byrne is an award-winning British writer, director and film producer who was born and brought up in Bristol. In his twenties, Byrne initially pursued a career in music and worked with Mercury Music Prize winner Roni Size. During his time as a performer, Byrne collaborated with a number of bands. After working on music video productions, Byrne made a shift towards film directing. He studied the craft of filmmaking and graduated in 2015 with a first class honours degree in Filmmaking & Creative Media at The University of the West of England. In 2017, Byrne was awarded a Masters in Film Directing at Goldsmiths University London where his short film was selected by BAFTA qualifying film festivals: Encounters, Aesthetica and Sarasota. The film 'Twenty Minutes' was nominated for the Creative Filmmaker Award. Subsequently, Byrne directed 'Disconnect' featuring Nitin Ganatra, and 'Public Discourse'. Both of these short films received awards including best script while screening internationally at film festivals. In 2018, Byrne joined BAFTA crew and founded Parameter Films. The following year he produced the award-winning short film 'Public Discourse'. Byrne was raised around musicians in his family. The combination of music, characters, emotion and imagery are what first attracted him to filmmaking. Byrne is second-generation Irish and was born in St Pauls, England, before moving with his family to another working class estate in Bristol called The Dings where he grew up. Byrne's Irish father is a painter and folk singer who creates oil paintings on canvas. His mother is from Bristol and was a teacher at a primary school in Knowle West. Byrne has a strong focus on writing and film directing. Some of his practices also include producing, script writing, cinematography and editing.
