The award winning Director, Writer, Producer, Nolbert Brown Jr. teamed up with his uncle, Johnnie Taylor, and Harvey Scales in 1975 to help write "Disco Lady", a musical work that became a platinum record in 1976. "Disco Lady" was #1 for four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, and at the top of the R&B Billboard Chart for six weeks; it ultimately sold over 2.5 million copies. Recognizing his talent, Nolbert's uncle introduced him to Norma Lear. His career in entertain took off from there. Brown is credited along with his colleagues for creative script writing for the character "George Jefferson" and worked on the set of "All In The Family". He then became a playwright for Broadway writing stage plays and musicals. He worked alongside Paul Winfield and his uncle Johnnie Taylor to create some of the legendary plays of the 1980s and 1990s to include "Bubbling Brown Sugar", "A Good Man's Hard To Find", "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show", "The Doors Open On Both Sides", "The Cotton Club", "This Joint Is Jumpin'," and "Cabin In The Sky." In 1988, Nolbert began curating "Life Story" stage plays. He started writing, directing and producing stage plays to tell the story of past musical legends to include Jackie Wilson, Mahalia Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Rick James. Nolbert became a legend on the "Chitlin' Circuit" producing a record number of stage plays that toured worldwide. In addition to his Life Story stage plays, Nolbert has written, directed, and produced over 60 stage plays. Today, he is still going strong. Nolbert Brown Jr. has earned numerous awards in the entertainment industry. He received two Tony Awards for Broadway stage plays, the Image Award for writing, the Urban Award for musical stage plays and TV shows, the Gospel Insider Award, the Chicago Music Award for movie scores, and his was the first American to receive the African Oscar Award for Director of the Year.
