Paul Joseph Hoffman is an American author and former longtime journalist who was born on August 3, 1963 in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. He is mostly known for writing the non-fiction books, "Murder in Wauwatosa: The Mysterious Death of Buddy Schumacher" and "Wicked Columbus, Indiana." His father, Raymond Joseph Hoffman, was a Russian language and U.S. History teacher at the middle school/junior high school level. His mother, Sharon Lucille McPhail Hoffman, was a registered nurse. His father is of German ancestry; his mother of Scotch/Irish. Both parents were born in Wisconsin. He is the oldest of four boys. His brothers are Mark Hoffman, Douglas Hoffman and Andrew Hoffman. He was raised in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. He is a 1981 graduate of Wauwatosa East High School and attended both the University of Wisconsin - Madison and the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, graduating from Milwaukee in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications (Radio/TV) and a minor in English. He spent 34 years as a journalist, working as a sports writer at the Milwaukee Sentinel; assistant sports editor at Pioneer Press newspapers in the suburban Chicago area; sports editor and news editor at The Shelbyville News in Shelbyville, Indiana; news editor at The Republic in Columbus, Indiana; and special publications editor at both the Daily Journal in Franklin, Indiana, and The Republic in Columbus, Indiana. He left journalism in September 2019 to concentrate on writing books before purchasing PathBinder Publishing, a hybrid book publishing company in May 2020. His first book, "Murder in Wauwatosa: The Mysterious Death of Buddy Schumacher," was published by The History Press in 2012. It is the true story of the disappearance of an 8-year-old boy in 1925. Paul's father purchased the house that Paul grew up in from Buddy Schumacher's father in 1969. His second book, "Wicked Columbus, Indiana," a nonfiction book was published in June 2017 by The History Press, is a collection of stories on some of the more salacious tales to come out of that city. He lives in Columbus, Indiana, with his wife, who is an author of children's books. He has a son, three daughters and two stepdaughters.
