Kathy Smith

Kathy Smith is an African American actress/writer/author born and raised in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee, She now resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Kathy has recently gained recognition for her spiritual role as "Pearlie" in Jake Mahaffy's award winning film "Free In Deed" This movie is based on a true story and filmed in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. Free In Deed has won two Best Film Awards. The Orizzonti Award for Best Film at the 72nd Venice Film Festival in Italy, Best Film at Turkey's Malatya Uluslararasi, and Film selection at AFI, Venice, Stockholm, and Turkey Malatya. You can find Kathy's name featured in the Variety Magazine, IndieWire, The Hollywood Reporter, Black Cinema Connection, AFI Fest People's Magazine, and Independence News, for her role as "Pearlie" (to name a few). Kathy has also made appearances in such movies as Black Snake Moan starring Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, and Justin Timberlake. Also, Oscar Award winning Hustle and Flow starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson. Both movies were filmed in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee and Directed by Craig Brewer. She made her first debut on film in the early 1990's when she played as an alternative actress in the movie "Laker Girls" which was filmed in Los Angeles, California starring Tina Yothers, Paris Vaughan, and Shari Shattuck, Directed by Bruce Seth Green.
