Born in Kansas City, Kansas with her older sister wanting to name her Starbright, her mother compromised and landed on Starla. Like her name, she began shining while dancing in a festival concert in 3rd grade. Starla has worked with L.A acting coach Sandra K. Horner of the Performance Studio, and has taken classes with L.A Producer/ Director Will Wallace of the Will Wallace Acting Company. In Houston, she has taken on-camera acting classes with Crystal Martinez, and at the Robert Mello Studio in Atlanta with Tim Phillips. In the Midwest she continuously brushes up on her acting skills with Bill Cooper and takes Jazz and Modern dance classes at Zenon Dance Company. Recently she played Nurse Lizzie in the indie film, "Special Ed" with Peanut Productions. She just finished putting on stuffy glasses and playing a walking encyclopedia while working with See Saw Theater Lab in adapting Ray Bradbury's, "The Halloween Tree." Starla utilizes her artistic abilities in many ways. She makes and has been commissioned to create bold and colorful mosaic art pieces for buyers in places like Minneapolis and Houston. Her choreography has been seen in many venues throughout Minneapolis; and she has enjoyed being a part of the collaborative process in creating many new plays in the Twin Cities area. Starla was born with an adventurous spirit. She has lived in South Korea; teaching English. She also traveled across the sea to Japan to explore the many Shrines and Temples there. Starla had great fun riding on elephants in Thailand. She has also practiced her Spanish in a few orphanages in Mexico, and her favorite activity was snorkeling in the Caribbean. Directors and choreographers have called her a "performative" powerhouse on stage as well as on-camera. She is looking forward to her next adventure on stage and off.
