Richard de Carvalho

A passionate and award-winning filmmaker, Richard de Carvalho has worked across various areas in the entertainment industry with over ten years of film and design experience, and has culminated a wealth of creative knowledge while pushing the boundaries of his craft, initially working as a graphic designer and art director for national movie publications, before graduating from AFTRS (Australian Film Television Film & Radio School). An accomplished director, writer, editor and designer, his love and passion for storytelling and collaborating with diverse industry talents led him to co-founding Lunacraft Productions. His first micro short film, Lost & Found (2016), won the inaugural Dolby Sound Challenge in 2015 which granted both Richard and his team the experience to work alongside Senior Dolby Engineers at the Dolby Suites Hollywood, Los Angeles, utilising innovative technologies, such as Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. Both locally and internationally recognised from his contributions across web series and digital content, Richard's next creative challenge was, Flytrap (2019) - a short horror thriller made under 48 hours, and officially selected and screened at the 2019 48ISFF Awards Ceremony at the Directors Guild Of America in Hollywood. Richard then went onto write, direct and puppeteer, Lenny (2019) - a short romantic comedy that was notably shortlisted at Tropfest 2019, nominated for Best Film at the 2019 Heart Of Gold International Film Festival, and nominated for 4 awards at the 2020 Melbourne Indie Film Festival. Richard's next ambitious short feature, A Blaster In the Right Hands: A Star Wars Story (2020) was officially selected for the 2020 Sci-Fi Film Festival - his first venture into fan-fiction, exploring the grittier side of the Star Wars galaxy that is a homage to classic Star Wars and Spaghetti Westerns. Richard's films are diverse, visually striking and thought provoking, building cinematic worlds featuring unique and fascinating characters. Richard continues to develop a number of projects, including feature films and animated series with a global reach.
