Michael Smith was born in Carmel, New York on April 10, 1976. He was born as Michael Everett Smith. His family moved to New Windsor, New York, which is 60 miles north of New York City. His father founded The Sentinel in 1979 as a weekly newspaper covering the Town of New Windsor. The Sentinel, today, publishes once each week, and covers Orange County, and is the largest non-daily paper. The Sentinel is a crusading community newspaper which has been involved in many community causes. It's proudest accomplishment is the establishment of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor. Michael is V.P. of E.W. Smith Publishing, Inc. The Sentinel and Orange County Post are both part of the E.W. Smith Publishing Co., Inc., which was founded in 1979. Since it's inception it has been a family owned business and publishes other niche publications. Michael and his brother Steven, started Network Weather back in 2012 with Dave Schwartz.
