Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Jonathan experienced many hardships growing up. At the age of 9 his older brother was murdered and that would have a profound effect on him for years to come. Often composed and reserved Jonathan turned to music and art to express his feelings. At 17 years old, Jonathan's father bought a video camera for the family and Jonathan quickly began making short movies and discovered he had a natural talent for film making. While studying Business Administration at Michigan State University, he shot music videos, wrote scripts, and produced documentaries for local clients while learning editing techniques and sound production. Dissatisfied with his professional career in management, Jonathan enrolled in DePaul University's Cinema Production Master program fall of 2012. There he developed his film making skills and made fostered strong relationships with other talented students. He served as Director of Photography on the short, The Assignment (2015), written and directed by Glen Cashetta. His latest short "Hi Mom" was completed in 2016.
