Tulsa is a Spanish musical group formed and led by the singer Miren Iza (Hondarribia, 1979). It takes its name from the American city of Tulsa. Before the formation of Tulsa, Miren Iza had been part of the 'Riot grrrl' band of Punk-rock and surf rock 'Electrobikinis', singing in English. This band broke up in 2002, launching Miren Iza's solo career and joining guitarist Alfredo Niharra and so, as a singer and songwriter in Castilian, they gave some concerts. Miren moves to Madrid where Tulsa, since then, has its base of operations. In 2006, Lucinda Records publishes its first CD, an EP of 4 songs recorded by Niharra in the rehearsal room, and began to shape the sound of Tulsa with songs like "Surely I deserve it" or "La Goulue". So in 2007 she released her first album with the label Subterfuge Records, 'Solo me has rozado'. Defined by critics as "something like Cecilia singing with The Jayhawks as backing band" and Rockdelux selected among the best singles of the year, reaching Tulsa musical references from the American rock or root (Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan) closer to people like Nacho Vegas and Christina Rosenvinge. In 2007 the group was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of New Artists. In 2010 they published 'Espera la pálida', produced by Karlos Osinaga (Lisabö) and with the collaboration of Anari. A year later, in 2011, Miren Iza announced in a statement that the band is taking an indefinite break for personal reasons, without specifying a date back to the stages. This flight was caused because she was offered a job Look in New York to pursue his other great passion, psychiatry. During this year and a half, somehow she kept her musical activity in the United States, offering small tours and producing new songs. 'Bórrame del mapa', 'Verano averno' and 'El baile', produced by Subterfuge Records. 'Ignonauta' a short film shot in 2013, directed by filmmaker Raúl Santos, played by Miren Iza, and built around three new songs presented by Tulsa. In January 2015 they launched their new work "The dead calm" (Gran Derby Records) in which surprises us with an innovative sound and bleak lyrics as those that we already had used. The album was recorded in Madrid and produced by Carasueño, Charlie Bautista and Miren Iza. They are imposing plagued atmospheres of synthesizers and drum machines that adorn the sweet voice and yet torn melancholic Miren are created. The wait was worth it, and its highlights issues such as "Oda al amor efímero", "Real People" or the brutal "En tu corazón sólo hay sitio en los suburbios." In April 2015, the group is awarded the Silver Biznaga Award for Best Music at the 18th Spanish Film Festival of Málaga for their participation soundtrack in 'Los exiliados románticos', directed by Jonás Trueba. In it, the music of Tulsa runs the movie from the beginning, even becomes part of it appearing Miren in concert at several bars in the plot, later taking a unique and symbolic role in it.
