Noreen is an award winning journalist, who came to WSET in 1990 as a reporter, and worked her way up to Senior Anchor and Managing Editor. The Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters named Noreen "Best Anchor of the Year" in 2012 for the state of Virginia. Noreen was awarded the prestigious Scripps Howard Award for Excellence, and the regional Edward R. Murrow award, for her series "The Forbidden Family." Her series "The Lyme Controversy" won the 2008 Douglas Southall Freeman award for Public Service, by the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Association, and a Meritorious Award from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters. And her series "Righting the Wrong," which was a follow up to "The Forbidden Family," won the VAPB Superior Award for investigative reporting. Those are the stories that make her the most proud. "The Forbidden Family," was a series about forced sterilizations in Virginia all the way up to the 1970s. It led to a full apology from Governor Mark Warner for the once government- backed and accepted practice. Her series "The Lyme Controversy," involving the battle between medical groups over diagnosis and treatment of an illness that's reached epidemic levels, resulted in numerous viewers finally realizing that's what was wrong with them, and getting the treatment they need for recovery. She's interviewed almost every governor, and met some famous people, but Noreen has also enjoyed the many interesting folks she's met over the years right here at home, in her feature "The Heart of Virginia Report." Noreen is highly involved in her community. She serves as president of the board of directors for the Ellington Fellowship Playhouse, and continues to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Virginia, as a former long-time board member. Noreen also serves as Mistress of Ceremonies at numerous fundraisers, awards dinners and events throughout Central Virginia. In her rare spare time, Noreen enjoys playing volleyball in the city league, and visiting friends at Smith Mountain Lake. But most of her spare time is given to her beloved rescue dogs Cadbury and Caramel, and they are all enjoying agility training together. Noreen graduated from University of Maryland with a B.S. in Journalism, and her first TV job was in Washington, D.C. Noreen has also been a radio news reporter in Florida and a television assignment editor in Baltimore.
