Casey Nicole Caplin was born on September 4th, 1996 to Debra Caplin and Jay Caplin in Miami, Florida. After spending most of her early childhood there, she settled in Boulder, Colorado. In October of 2004, she attended an early production of Wicked in New York City with it's original Broadway cast members. This was the spark that set Casey on her path to pursue Acting. She began actively auditioning locally, learning through trial and error as a child actress. She made appearances in local television, films, and Disney castings until she found her path leading her towards stage acting. Her first production as a stage actress (Anne of Green Gables: The Musical 2007) was through a local company for young actors. She was the smallest girl in the ensemble, with the least experience in theater; but with her natural acting talents she managed to have her own stage presence, even in a large ensemble. From there, as she got older and more experienced, she was able to branch out into more difficult roles, both in the ensemble and as supporting leads. From 2008-2009 she was cast in a range of shows for young actors, including Once on this Island (Andrea Devereaux), Beauty and the Beast (Silly Girl), and Annie (Lily St. Regis). In 2010, she joined the ensemble cast of CU Opera's production of Carousel by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. From 2011-2015, Casey worked as both actor and tech in Boulder High Theater Troupe 60. She started there by acting in their annual haunted house, which is where began to learn the craft of FX makeup. Gore, Fantasy, and Creature makeups were a particular interest to her, and she began honing her makeup skills over her entire career there. During this time she acted in featured ensemble roles in musicals such as Xanadu (2011), Weird Romance (2014), and Chicago (2015). Though musical theater was her passion, she showed particular skill in black box theater with Troupe 60. She excelled in One-Act plays, and was featured in them annually (Philip Glass buys a Loaf of Bread, The Battle of Bull Run Always Makes me Cry, A Children's Story, The Twilight Zone). She also served as director to the black box One-Acts, Makeup Crew (specialty in blood effects), and Stage Construction crews. She graduated high school with an arts focus diploma and special distinction as an Honors Thespian. After auditioning for many colleges with an intent to pursue a degree in acting, Casey came to the decision to attend Cornish College of the Arts beginning in the fall of 2015, studying acting with an emphasis in Musical Theater. It was there she credited her first professional FX makeup work, serving as Key Makeup Artist on the set of Hellscreen (2015). Since then, she has transferred to the University of Colorado at Boulder beginning January 2017, and is still working towards her B.F.A in Acting.
