As a child, Pamela Prestyn was featured in a television commercial for Crimson Travel Service which played in New England for almost a decade. She was also featured in a children's dance production of American In Paris in the 1970s, and cast in the ensemble of the first United States production of Benvenuto Cellini by the Opera Company of Boston under the direction of Sarah Caldwell in 1975. In the 1980s she studied voice with Sarah Reese of the Opera Company of Boston, and later in New York City with Steven Lutvak (who wrote A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder). Pamela performed small parts in the ABC soap operas, All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital, and in regional theatre before being cast in a lead role in The Almighty Fred (AKA The Man Who Would Be Fred).
