Danny had a loan spell at Watford before making his senior Spurs debut in a League Cup win against his home-town team Doncaster Rovers in August, 2009. Danny will always be remembered by Spurs fans for his full debut later that season in his first Premier League appearance for the club. Selected for a crucial match against Arsenal in April, 2010, he delivered with one of the all-time great derby goals, a volley from 35 yards that flew home and saw Tottenham Hotspur on the way to a 2-1 victory over the Gunners and eventual Champions League qualification. He played 17 times on loan in the Championship for Bristol City in 2010/11, before returning to Tottenham Hotspur again before the end of the season. He featured 11 times in the Premier League in 2011/12 and participated for Team GB in the 2012 Olympic Games. Danny had a successful loan spell at Sunderland in 2012/13 and was named Sunderland's 'Young Player of the Season.' He became first-choice left-back at the start of the following season for Tottenham Hotspur and overcame injuries. In 2014/15 he was a 'Player of the Season' contender, making 34 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals. In 2015/16, he impressed enough to be included in the PFA Team of the Year along with team-mates Toby Alderweireld, Dele and Harry Kane. In 2016/17, he managed 21 starts in all competitions - including his first matches in the UEFA Champions League. He was named in the PFA Premier League 'Team of the Year' for the second season in a row, but in January, 2017 he suffered from a serious knee injury and subsequent complications ruled him out for many months. Capped by England at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 levels, he won his first senior England cap in a 3-2 victory against Germany in March 2016 and went on to be England's first-choice left-back at Euro 2016. He was also part of England's squad that finished fourth at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Having endured an injury-hit couple of seasons, the England international returned to playing more regularly in 2018/19 and ended the season in the starting XI in the final of the UEFA Champions League. In January, 2020 he joined Premier League side Newcastle United on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season."
