Born Evgeniy Aleksandrovich Garanichev on 13 February 1988 in Novoilyinsky, Perm Krai, Russia, is a professional biathlete. His career began a s a cross-country skier. Garanichev switched to biathlon in 2008. The reason was his village didn't provide any opportunity to a young cross-country skier. However biathlon is one of the most popular and loved winter sport in the Russian Federation. On 20 January 2011 was Garanichev's World Cup debut in Antholz-Anterselva. The same year he took part in the Universiade that took place in Erzurum, Turkey. Garanichev won three medals - a silver in the mixed relay and two bronze for the the sprint and pursuit. The 2011-2012 season was the second in his career as a member of the team. In Östersund, the first tour of the World Cup he placed 10th in the 20 km Individual. But Garanichev was inconsistent in the sprint and didn't achieve top placing in Hochfilzen later. So he was sent to compete in the IBU Cup in Obertilliach. Garanichev made his first podium in the relay, a second place. He returned to the World Cup for the races in Nove Mesto. Garanichev finished 7th in the pursuit. Later in Antholz-Anterselva he made his first World Cup podium - a second place in the sprint. Garanichev was an absolute success in Holmenkollen when he won the 10 km sprint and finished 3rd twice in the 12.5 km pursuit and the 15 km mass start. With such brilliant results Garanichev participated at the World Championships in Ruhpolding. He placed 12th in the sprint, 14th in the pursuit, 9th in the mass start and 6th in the relay. At the end of the season he was 12th in the overall with 585 points. During the 2012-2013 season began with a Top 10 finish in Östersund in the pursuit. He was 9th. However in Hochfilzen Garanichev placed 45th, a tragic position. In the following pursuit Garanichev finished at 13th place. He was able to move 32 positions ahead. In Pokljuka Garanichev came 14th in the sprint and 4th in the pursuit, so close to the podium. When the World Cup tour was in Oberhof, he won the relay and achieved twice a 2nd place in the sprint and the pursuit. In both events Garanichev shared the podium and the joy of the winner of the events, his teammate Dmitry Malyshko. At the 2013 World Championships in Nove Mesto he placed 19th in the sprint, 28th in the pursuit, 25th in the mass start and 4th in the relay. The season concluded at number 6 in the overall. The 2013-2014 season Garanichev made a second place in the sprint in Holmenkollen. But his focus and concentration was for the Olympic Games in February 2014 in Sochi. In spite of the pressure, he won a bronze medal in the 20 km Individual event. Ever since Garanichev came on the biathlon scene he rarely achieved good scores in that particular discipline. He showed affection for the sprint and pursuit. During the 2015 World Championships in Kontiolahti he placed 35th in the Individual, 6th in the sprint, 22nd in the pursuit, 11th in the mass start and 4th in the relay. On the World Cup tour level, Garanichev was twice 2nd in the Individual in Holmenkollen and the sprint in Antholz-Anterselva. Also came 3rd in the pursuit in Antholz-Anterselva and was twice 5th in the sprints in Östersund and Pokljuka. The season concluded at number 7 in the overall. During 2015-2016 season Garanichev made 2 podiums. He came 3rd twice in the mass start in Ruhpolding and the sprint in Pokljuka. At the 2016 World Championships, Garanichev didn't win any medal. But had excellent positions - 8th in the Individual, 6th in the sprint and relay, 22nd in the pursuit and 11th in the mass start. He finished the season once more 7th in the overall.
