Alexander Wolf was born on 21 December 1978 in Schmalkalden, Thuringia, East Germany. He is a retired professional biathlete, the son of famous biathlon coach Karl-Heinz Wolf. His first year in the sport was 1986 and he made his World Cup debut on 11 December 1998. Wolf participated in three Winter Olympic Games during his career. His first ones were in 2002 in Salt Lake City. He took part only in the 20km Individual event where placed 34th. The second were in 2006 in Turin. Wolf finished 14th in the sprint, 19th in the pursuit and 8th in the relay. Finally in 2010 in Vancouver he participated only in the Individual and ended up 24th. At his first World Championships in Holmenkollen, Wolf came 8th in the sprint. Four years later, in Oberhof again his appearance was only in one discipline again, the Individual, where positioned 53rd. Next year in Hochfilzen Wolf was 6th in the relay. At the 2007 World Championships in Antholz-Anterselva he competed in all races. Placed 13th in the Individual, 15th in the sprint and 14th in the pursuit and mass start and 5th in the relay. The following year, 2008 during the World Championships in Ostersund, Wolf won two bronze medals in the pursuit and in the relay. He finished twice 19th in the Individual and the sprint and 14th in the mass start. His last performance at World Championships was in 2009 in Pyeongchang. He ended up 30th in the Individual, 53rd in the sprint and 18th in the pursuit. Alexander Wolf has 3 individual victories in the 10 km sprint event. He won in Brezno-Osrblie in 2005-2006, in Pokljuka in 2006-2007 and in Lahti in 2002-2003. Wolf has been on 5 times second and 5 times 3rd during his career. Once he was 4th in the Individual in 2005-2006. Announced his retirement after the 2009-2010 season.
