Born on 14 April 1978 in Tartu, Estonia, Lessing is a professional biathlete. His first year in biathlon was 1986 and he made his World Cup debut in 1998. Lessing participated in four Olympic Games from 2002 in Salt Lake City until 2014 in Sochi. His best results from all of the Games are mainly with the relay - 11th in 2002 and 14th in 2010. His personal best was 45th place in the 20 km Individual event. During his entire career Lessing made one individual podium - in the 12.5 km pursuit in Pokljuka in December 2009. His other best World Cup position is a 7th place in the 10 km sprint in 2014-2015 in Oberhof. Roland Lessing took part in 15 World Championships over the years. His best accomplishment was a 15th place in the Individual in 2015 in Kontiolahti and a 9th place with the relay team in 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk. His best overall finish is at number 48 during the 2014-2015 season. Lessing has a long biathlon career and much experience. He is a valuable member of the Estonian team in spite of his results, which are mostly off the Top 30.
