Roman Dostál was born on 13 July 1970 in Ústí nad Orlicí, Czech Republic. He is a retired biathlete. His first year in biathlon was 1984. Dostál participated in three Winter Olympic Games - in 2002 in Salt Lake City, 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver. His best results are all in the relay event. Dostál was 5th in 2002, 6th in 2006, 7th in 2010. He took part in World Championships from 1991 until 2009. At the 2005 World Championships in Hochfilzen he achieved his one and only victory. Dostál won the gold medal in the 20 km Individual event. He has won one more medal from World Championships, a silver in the team event in 1995 in Antholz-Anterselva. His best performance in the World Cup during his entire career was a second place in the mass start in Holmenkollen in 2005-2006. A 5th position in the same discipline in Khanty-Mansiysk in 2002-2003, 6th in the Individual in 2003 and three times 8th in the sprints in Oberhof in 1999-2000 and in 2000-2011; and in the pursuit in Kontiolahti in 2005-2006. He announced his retirement after the 2009-2010 season.
