Ilia Chernousov

Born Ilia Grigoryevich Chernousov on 7 August 1986 in Novosibirsk, Russia, he is a cross-country skier. Chernousov biggest career success so far was winning the bronze Olympic medal in the 50 km free style in Sochi in 2014. He holds one more bronze medal, however not Olympic, in the 30 km pursuit from the 2011 World Championships in Holmenkollen. Chernousov has been on the World Cup tour since 2004. He practiced artistic gymnastic when he was a child before he came to cross-country skiing. His first victory came in 2007 in the 4 x 10 km event in Switzerland. His best individual result was first place in the 30 km pursuit in Rybinsk in 2011. On 21 December 2014 in Hochfilzen, Chernousov won the 10 km free style at the Alpen Cup. He holds the title of Master of Sport, International Class. This are basically the highlights in his career so far. Chernousov trains separately, together with his friend and compatriot, the gold Olympic medalist from Sochi, Alexander Legkov. He enjoys competing in all cross-country disciplines, from sprint to long distance. In June 2014, Chernousov married the silver Olympic medalist, the biathlete Selina Gasparin. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Leila born on 27 February 2015.
