He was born at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California as David Joseph Raphael. His mother, Mary Raphael was a free spirit with a Registered Nurse degree. David's father, whom he never knew was from Spain. After he was born he was given up for adoption however David's grandfather, James Ambrose who was to become a great influence in his life claimed and took him home. Therefore the first 6 years of David's life were living with his mother, grandfather and grandmother in Eagle Rock, California. David's grandfather was a graduate of John Carroll University with a degree in mathematics, played the piano, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet as well as the guitar and banjo and was at one time a member of the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra. James Ambrose also attended John Hopkins School of Medicine. At the age of 6 David moved with his mother to South Pasadena, California where he attended Holy Family private school for the First and Second grade. By this time he already began to show great athletic and speaking abilities coupled with a voracious appetite to read. Sadly David was terrible at math. After the second grade David's mother married Lewis H. Height Jr. son of a world famous aviation pioneer which explains David's love of aviation and space. David was adopted by Lewis and his last name changed to Height which was befitting considering that David would eventually grow to 6"5". The three of them moved to Eagle Rock, California where he attended St. Dominic's private school and graduated from the 8th grade. Once again David showed an ever growing appetite to read. While his classmates were still working on the 8th grade reader, he had read: Socrates, Aristotle, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Homer, Shakespeare, Cicero to name a few and for a quick light read all of Tom Swift, Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books that were then available not to mention SciFi Books by Robert Heinlein and Frank Herbert . David also developed an uncanny ability to play chess, the Japanese game of Go and an ever growing athletic and public speaking ability. David applied to and was accepted at the prestigious Pater Noster Private High School. Here he was in all college preparatory classes and studied Chemistry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, English, History and Latin where he was named a "National Latin Scholar" 4 years in a row. He ran for freshman, sophomore and junior class president and lost every time. In his final and senior year he won a landslide victory and was elected Student Body President. He was also captain of the Varsity Basketball team, MVP and named All Santa Fe League. Once again his reading appetites were expanding as was his public speaking abilities. David was offered numerous basketball scholarships from notable universities across the country but was forced by his step father to reject them. Eventually he attended Los Angeles City College for one year. After completing his first year of college he moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked first in a warehouse and eventually promoted to a fully commissioned salesman. At the same time he returned back to college and attended the prestigious Regis University then known as Regis College changed his major from Ancient History to Business and Economics and graduated at the top of his class. He then experienced a meteoric rise in the business world, eventually working for the German candy company August Storck LP. David married and with his new bride moved to Laguna Hills, California. There attended law school where he earned his Doctor of Law degree . David's wife accepted a position in Chicago, Illinois to head an HR department and once again moved with their young son to Chicago. Although David was the CEO of several international companies and spent a great deal of time traveling throughout Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the United States there was always in the back of his mind a question: "Can I make it as an Actor and Voice Over Artist?" David's grandfather, James Ambrose was artistically talented including music. Grandfather's dream was to make it n Hollywood and he did eventually achieved success as a Director, Writer, Producer and Editor. In fact Granpa along with the famed Fred Niblo Jr, Academy Award nominee. wrote and directed the movie "Men of Destiny" which starred Multi Acting Award winner Pat O'Brien. Grandpa cast the young David as a supporting actor and from that moment on he was bitten by the acting bug only to push it down in favor of business and practicing law. David decided it was time. It is now or never. So he shut down his 14 year old business picked up where he had left off after having studied Theater and Voice Over at Saddleback Community College while living in Laguna Hills, California and took theater at the prestigious Acting Studio of Chicago. In addition started the study of On Camera and re-started Voice Overs under the tutelage of Brian Boden founder of the highly respected BodenWorks Ltd, Chicago where David still continues his studies. David formed Hand On Ear Entertainment, Inc. which now has an On Camera studio for practice, rehearsal and self-taped auditions and a separate Voice Over recording booth for auditions. David's son Paul is now much older and is now a VO Artist working at Hand On Ear Entertainment as well. His daughter Rachael lives in Denver with her two children making David and his wife Maike young grandparents. David truly believes in giving it all you got, take chances and success will come.
