Laura Dahlmeier was born on 22 August 1993 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. She is a professional biathlete. Her first year in the sport was 2002 and her World Cup debut occurred during the 2012-2013 season. At the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in 2011 in Liberec, Laura claimed 3 gold medals in the Individual, sprint and mixed relay. Next was the Junior World Championships in Nove Mesto from which she took 2 bronze medals for the pursuit and relay. Two years later, Dahlmeier made a big impression with her performance during the 2013 Junior World Championships in Obertilliach. She won 4 medals from each event - 3 gold for the Individual, sprint and relay disciplines and one silver in the pursuit. She participated at her first ever Olympics in Sochi in 2014 where placed 13th in the Individual, 46th in the sprint, 30th in the pursuit and 11th in the relay. The most successful season in her career so far is the 2015-2016. On 5 February 2015, Dahlmeier won the sprint in Nove Mesto. This first ever World Cup victory led to a total of 7 individual wins mostly in the pursuit event, her favorite type of race. She won 7 medals from World Championships - one gold (in the relay) and one silver (in the pursuit) in Kontiolahti in 2015. But her star never shinned so bright before as it did at the 2016 World Championships in Holmenkollen. Dahlmeier won 5 medals from each discipline race - one gold for the pursuit, one silver in the mass start where she passed a few meters before the finish line Kaisa Mäkäräinen, who ended up 3rd; and 3 bronze medals in the Individual, the sprint and the relay. Laura Dahlmeier is called Magdalena Neuner's successor.
