He started with books, then moved on to film. Either way, it is the storytelling that matters. Robert has been telling stories since learning his first letters. Educated in Romania, he flew over to the States for a brief year as an exchange student in 2003-2004. Getting back to his home country, he got his degree from the University of Bucharest, Department of Philosophy. Then he learned some communication and advertising on his own, while never stopping writing. Poetry, novels, blog posts, and - since 2015 - screenplays. His debut film is Toaster (2015), which tells the story of a young man that has to cope with his mother being ill, his father leaving his family, and his sister and brother-in-law being caught in everyday life routine. In 2020, Robert Antonescu co-directed a TV long feature about the Romanian revolution in 1989 - In Search of the Lost Revolution. This was followed by 10 TV shorts on the same topic, one year later. In early 2021, Robert Antonescu also finished writing and directing a TV long feature about the debut of the COVID-19 pandemic. The feature Planet-19 is still in post. In 2022, Robert Antonescu created and directed Bucharest Dawn to Dusk, the first short film from an intended series on everyday life in the major cities in Romania.
