Jean-Philippe Leguellec

Date of birth : 07/31/1985
City of birth : Kingston, Canada

Born Jean-Philippe Le Guellec on 31 July 1985 in Kingston, Canada. He is a former biathlete. His first year in the sport was 1999 and his World Cup debut happened on 26 November 2005. Soon after he was chosen to participate in his first ever Olympic Games in 2006 in Turin. Leguellec started in only two events - the Individual where he finished 48th end the sprint - 59th. He made significant success at the Junior World Championships. Leguellec won two medals in youth races at Haute Maurienne in 2004, and a bronze medal as a junior in Presque Isle in 2006. At the 2007 World Championships in Antholz-Anterselva he was 40th in the Individual, 64th in the sprint and 14th in the relay. So far Jean-Phillippe wasn't showing any progressive result in the World Cup tour. During the 2008-2009 season for the first time in his career, Leguellec managed twice to place in the Top 10. He was 7th in the pursuit in Antholz-Anterselva and 8th in the same discipline in Hochfilzen. The season concluded at number 32nd in the overall. At the two World Championships in Östersund in 2008 and the following year 2009 in Pyeongchang, Jean-Phillippe's best individual result was 42nd place in the sprint in 2009. And also a 16th position with the relay team at those same Championships. However back at World Cup tour in 2009-2010, Leguellec placed 6th in the sprint in Vancouver and 10th in the Individual in Östersund. This got him his best overall finish ever - 30th. Very determined to prove once for all that he is one of the best biathletes, Leguellec took part in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. The advantage here was the terrain. Jean-Phillippe is very familiar with the race track after all, the Games are in his native Canada. And so he did made an impression with his performance by finishing 13th in the Individual, 6th in the sprint, 11th in the pursuit, 30th in the mass start (not such a good position considering that he took last place) and 10th with the relay team. After the Games, Leguellec achieved twice the 8th position in the sprint in Khanty-Mansyisk and in the pursuit in Hochfilzen in 2011-2012. At the 2011 World Championships, he showed quite an indecisive performance. Placed 46th in the sprint, 52nd in the pursuit and 11th in the relay. Finally in the beginning of the 2012-2013 season, during the second race from the program, Jean-Phillippe Leguellec achieved his first and only victory in the 10 km sprint in Östersund. Later on he finished 10th in the sprint in Hochfilzen and in the Individual in Nove Mesto. At the 2012 World Championships in Ruhpolding, Leguellec's best individual result was 14th in the sprint. In the other disciplines placed 71st in the Individual, 26th in the pursuit and 13th with the relay. The next year at the 2013 World Championships in Nove Mesto for the first time, Jean-Phillippe Leguellec took part in all events. He finished 10th in the Individual, 36th in the sprint, 15th in the pursuit, 22nd in the mass start and 8th in the relay. The 2013-2014 was an Olympic season. All the attention and pressure was focused on the Games in February 2014 in Sochi. Before the Olympics, Leguellec opened the season with a 4th in the Individual in Östersund. He couldn't double his success from the previous year when he won the sprint. After that good position, Jean-Phillippe didn't achieve any other good placings until the Olympic Games. In Sochi he finished 34th in the Individual, 5th in the sprint, 26th in the pursuit, 10th in the mass start and 7th in the relay. At the end of the season, Leguellec announced his retirement.
