Doreen Maroga is a fierce radio, screen, theatre, and film actress, and voice over artist. In primary school at Sagewood School in Midrand, she partook in the annual school plays - performing in productions such as The Music of the Violin and The Faraway Tree. She continued to pursue her passion for theatre throughout high school, even being selected to perform at the WITS Raps Festival - where she was nominated for Best Cameo in a Self-written Play. In Grade Twelve, she won the award for Most Promising Actress. Doreen went on to study a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts at The University of the Witwatersrand, doing courses including writing, applied theatre studies (which is administered by the WITS Drama for Life Department), and majoring in Performance Studies and Voice for Radio Drama. During her time at WITS, she took on roles, mostly lead, in a range of plays including Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, A Raisin in the Sun, an adaptation of the novel The Alchemy of Desire, Eurydice, Euripedes: Trojan Women, and various other student written plays. She also had lead roles in film adaptations of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and The Godfather. She worked with the esteemed lecturer, actor, and director, Mwenya Kabwe, in an experimental immersive theatre production called Nomad's Among Us - which was performed at the WITS Origins Centre in 2015. While studying, Doreen made her screen debut by playing a news reporter in the television series Mutual Friends - which aired on SABC 1 in 2014. She was also recently asked to adjudicate the Dainfern College High School Theatre Productions, alongside colleague, actor and director, Binnie Christie. She is only just beginning her career, and with her vast training and thirst for success, as well as your help, it will be a monumental journey.
