At the early age of 5, Milaya was introduced to the arts and would train and participate in annual recitals. Her mother took note in her enjoyment of performing and got the opportunity for her to audition for Pennsylvania's oldest African American theatre, The Freedom Theatre. Although she did not get accepted, the experience and desire to perform never left her. She later involved herself in several creative activities but really focused in on her academics. After high school, she went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Masters in Public Health. In 2012, while working full-time as a nutrition professional and also attending graduate school, she found herself feeling very unfulfilled. And as a result, she finally mustered up the courage to revisit the arts and began taking acting classes. In 2015 Milaya's desire for acting came full circle when she volunteered to join a table read and ended up scoring a star role in the digital series "Single and Anxious" as Karissa. She has also been seen in Old head (digital series), Two years of Eternal Joy (theatre), and "Wolf Head Hamlet"(theatre) and now stars in Love You Right (Film). She also was given the opportunity to help cast and help produce Love You Right. Milaya has been nominated for Best Actress at the 2018 Glow Television Festival for her role as Karissa in Single and Anxious. While attending an acting class early on, she got a chance to briefly speak with the late Philadelphia native and acting coach Dustin Felder. He reminded her that Iron sharpens Iron and that's it's imperative to hone your skills. Those words stuck with her and she plans to continue to cultivate and hone all of her skills learned over the years and hopes to be an inspiration to all people but in particular women of color to show it's never too late to follow your dreams.
