Born on June 6 1996 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, filmmaker Henry Thong was raised in Kuala Lumpur and Adelaide, Australia. Ever since his childhood Thong has been a passionate visual storyteller, but it wasn't until high school that he discovered his love for filmmaking. It was there that he produced his first short films which were recognized and awarded at numerous film festivals in Australia and the USA. A passionate documentary filmmaker, Thong believes that the world is an interesting enough place without us having to create new ones and has produced multiple films exploring the worlds of art and culture. In Content Censored (2016), through interviews with leading media makers such as Don Hahn, Cathy Wilcox and Alan Moir, Thong investigates censorship in art and the media in the aftermath of the 2014 Sony Pictures Cyber-Attack and 2015 Charlie Hebdo Attack. In his series Makers Who Inspire (2016), he collaborates with the most inspiring artists and creators (such as Paul Vasileff, Lauren Lovette, Ronny Chieng, Yûji Ayabe and Poh Ling Yeow) to create intimate portraits of their life and work, explore a diverse variety of artistic industries, and examine art, inspiration and the creative process. In 2014, at the age of 18, Thong was named one of South Australia's fastest-rising stars under 30 by The Advertiser, and his work has since been screened and awarded at film festivals in Australia, Europe and the United States, including the Melbourne International Film Festival, St Kilda Film Festival, Dance on Camera Festival and Fashion Film Festival Milano.
