Born and raised in Boise, Idaho, Sterling developed an eye for directing during his teen years. In 1990, he spent the summer studying Video Production at the Art Institute of Seattle. He continued pursuing his passion the following summer at Boise State University. In 1993, the opportunity to apprentice Ron Contarsy in New York City arose allowing Sterling to spend the remainder of the year in the Big Apple. His apprenticeship opened many doors and gave him the opportunity to photograph fashion models for Next and Elite Models around Manhattan. After years working as a Fashion Photographer, Sterling's interests in motion pictures sparked a relocation to Los Angeles and the writing of his first film, "Duel on Planet Z." Upon entry into the Newport Film Festival, the film gained distribution by Smash Cuts Super Sci-Fi. Several shorts later, in 2005, Sterling created his own production company called Hip How Hang Productions. His flare for comedy and sensational sense of humor prompted the making of many popular spoof commercials that soon led to a deal with Monster energy drink and Mendelsohn/Zien Advertising. Short commercial spoofs led to feature film spoofs of the popular "Twilight" series. His YouTube channel gained over a million hits because of "Not Twilight" and was voted Best Twilight Spoof by the Sisterhood Pants radio podcast. He continues to write and direct here in Los Angeles.
