Adriana Bogdan was born Adriana Nicolescu, in 1942, in Constanta, Romania. After filming "The Upraisal" ("Rascoala") based on Liviu Rebreanu's famous novel, directed by Mircea Muresan, in 1965, she changed her Family name from Nicolescu to Bogdan, so that she appeared in the following French-Romanian co-production "Mamaia", in 1967, under her Brother's First name. Then she married the French director of this movie, José Varela, and left the country, settling in Paris, not wanting to have any contact with her family... After doing a second film with her husband, "Money-Money", in 1969, she played in two more movies, "Un Soir, un Train" (1968) respectively "Belle" (1973), with the Belgian director André Delvaux. She managed also to get a part in "Aurélien" (1973, TV), with director Michel Favart, on a screenplay written by Louis Aragon, with whom she became friends. After this film, she divorced Varela, and married the poet Alain Jouffroy. There was only one more film, a documentary, she did, in 1979..., after which her career faded away... Newertheless, she remained friends with Elsa Triollet and Louis Aragon.
