Gennadi Petrovich Bogachev was born on March 6, 1945, in Shatsk, Russia. From 1965 to 1969 he studied at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinematography graduating in 1969 as actor. Since 1969 Bogachev has been a permanent member of the Bolshoi Drama Theatre in St. Peterburg (Leningrad). He worked under the leadership of the legendary director Georgi Tovstonogov for 20 years. After the death of Tovstonogov, Bogachev continued his work with an outstanding ensemble of actors at BDT. There his stage partners were such stars as Kirill Lavrov, Oleg Basilashvili, Tatyana Doronina, Alisa Freyndlikh, Lyudmila Makarova, Svetlana Kryuchkova, Zinaida Sharko, Valentina Kovel, Innokentiy Smoktunovskiy, Sergey Yurskiy, Oleg Borisov, Vladislav Strzhelchik, Yefim Kopelyan, Evgeniy Lebedev, Vsevolod Kuznetsov, Georgiy Shtil, Nikolay Trofimov, Andrey Tolubeev, and many other remarkable Russian actors. Gennadi Bogachev has been enjoying a busy acting career on stage and in film. His stage works include leading roles in classic plays by Maxim Gorky, William Shakespeare, Mikhail Sholokhov and Charles Dickens. His latest film-works include 'Brezhnev' (2005) and "Master and Margaret" (2005) an adaptation of the eponymous book by Mikhail A. Bulgakov. Bogachev was designated People's Artist of Russia (1990) and received awards and decorations from the Russian state. He is living and working in St. Petersburg, Russia.
