Paul Bozymowski is an award-winning director whose work includes long form documentary film and television, short films, commercials, concert and music video, and live theatrical multimedia. He has chronicled the lives of numerous celebrities and distinct personalities including Hugh Jackman, Vice President Al Gore, Sting, Carrie Underwood, Renée Fleming, Buzz Aldrin, Ed Burns, Graydon Carter, Simon Cowell, Anna Sui, Alexander Wang, Pharrell Williams, Mary J. Blige, Adam Levine, Common, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Miley Cyrus. He has created media and entertainment for dozens of clients including Citi, American Express, UPS, Conde Nast, Proctor & Gamble, LVMH, Unilever, Sony, Intel, Toyota, IBM and General Motors. His documentary work has appeared on Fox, PBS, Discovery, A&E and Nat Geo. Born in Detroit to parents of Mexican and Polish decent, Paul thrived in a multicultural environment from an early age. He began piano lessons at the age of 4 and joined St. Paul's Episcopal Choir in downtown Detroit at the age of 9. His music background led to a deep appreciation of the arts as he went on to travel Asia with Musical Youth International at the age of 13. He then performed in a number of high school theater and musical theater productions, eventually studying music, theater and film at Northwestern University. Moving to New York City directly after college, Paul built his directing career on the technical and creative foundations of editing and cinematography over the course of nearly two decades. Paul recently directed the 90 minute special American Idol: American Dream for Fox Television. This retrospective tells the story of American Idol's immense impact on television, music and American culture. Featuring new interviews with a vast array of individuals involved with the show, this special kicked off the last week of the series' 15th and final season. Also in long format television, Paul recently directed American Voices with Renée Fleming for PBS' Great Performances. This 90 minute special takes place at the Kennedy Center and combines documentary filmmaking with live performances by vocalists including Dianne Reeves, Sara Bareilles, Josh Groban, and Alison Krauss. Also for PBS' Great Performances, Paul recently directed Sting: The Last Ship Live at the Public Theater - an intimate performance of songs by the artist from his latest album. In 2013, Paul directed the documentary Miley: The Movement which chronicles international superstar Miley Cyrus as she reinvents herself and provokes intense controversy at MTV's Video Music Awards. Also that year, Paul directed the documentary Generation Astronaut for Unilever/Axe which follows an international competition to send ordinary people into space aboard an XCOR spacecraft. The documentary aired internationally and won a Bronze Cannes Lion and 2 Gold Clios. In 2012, Paul directed the series Toyota: The Tundra Endeavour and the companion documentary Three Nights, Three Days: Endeavour's Journey Through Los Angeles. The work captures the historic journey of the Space Shuttle Endeavour as it travels through the streets of Los Angeles to its final home at the California Science Center. The campaign through Saatchi and Saatchi won numerous awards including 4 Gold Cannes Lions. Throughout 2011, Paul documented the development of IBM's Watson, the cognitive computer system designed to play the game show Jeopardy! Dozens of short films, numerous commercials, and a host of television segments chronicle the thrilling story of this massive technological breakthrough. Created in conjunction with Ogilvy and Mather, the campaign generated over a billion media impressions and garnered numerous awards including both Gold and Silver Cannes Lions. Also in 2011, Paul directed Sting's Sixtieth Birthday Celebration: Live at the Beacon Theater. This one-night-only concert premiered exclusively on the Sting 25 iPad app, created by RadicalMedia and sponsored by American Express and Chevrolet. The once-in-a-lifetime show includes an extensive list of performances from a diverse roster of superstars including Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Robert Downey, Jr., Will.i.am, and Mary J. Blige. As a cinematographer, Paul has filmed a multitude of projects including the award-winning series Iconoclasts for the Sundance Channel directed by Academy Award® nominated Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, Britney: For the Record directed by Phil Griffin, the feature documentary Brotherhood directed by Academy Award® nominated Lilibet Foster, The Victoria Secret Fashion Show on CBS, and Nike's Battlegrounds on MTV.
