Alexander Calzatti was born on June 2, 1935 in Leningrad, Soviet Union (now Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation) in the family of the famous cinematographer Arkadi Koltsaty. He graduated from the camera department of VGIK in 1958, worked at the Mosfilm film studio in Moskow. In the 1970s he emigrated from the USSR. In the 2000s he lived and worked in Los Angeles (USA).
