"When you have really good actors, you can trust them to really think about what’s going on, and to be their characters when we film." Juan José Campanella is an Argentine film and television director, producer and screenwriter, being an influential figure in the audiovisual industry of Argentina. He was director and screenwriter of the renowned film The Secret in Their Eyes (2009), winner of the Oscar for "Best International Feature Film". His training began with film studies at the Grupo de Profesionales del Cine and then at the Universidad de Avellaneda, and he also completed a Master of Fine Arts at New York University. Campanella is president of the film and television production company "100 Bares" with which he has made films such as: Son of the Bride (2001), Moon of Avellaneda (2004), the animated film Underdogs (2013), and The Weasel's Tale (2019). He also made content for television, such as the miniseries Vientos de agua (2006) and Cannibals (2015), and directed some episodes of Law and Order and Dr. House for American television. Apart from the Academy Award, Campanella has received different Silver Condor Awards, and outside his country, he was nominated for four Goya Awards. His ability to capture the audience's attention with the construction of his characters and the use of complex themes has positioned him as one of the most respected directors in Argentina.
