“When you begin to develop your powers of empathy and imagination, the whole world opens up to you.” After attending The Catholic University of America, earning a BA in Drama and working with the renowned drama coach and master teacher, Father Gilbert Hartke, Susan Sarandon began her career in television soap operas. She later made her way into the film industry with a role in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which paved the way for larger roles in Hollywood. Critical acclaim came with her performance in Atlantic City, but it was her role in Thelma & Louise that solidified her status as one of Hollywood’s most respected actresses. After several award nominations, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 1995 film Dead Man Walking. She also received a BAFTA for her role in The Client a year earlier. In addition to her acting career, Sarandon is widely known for her social and political activism, supporting a variety of liberal causes.
