“I like directing much better. It's more fun, that's all there is to it. It's essentially the same job, which is storytelling, but you have more control over the way you want to tell the story. It's a high. I love it.” Mel Gibson is an American-born Australian actor, director, and producer renowned for his work in action films and later as a successful filmmaker. Gibson moved to Australia at age 12 and studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. He made his film debut in Summer City (1977) and gained prominence with his role in Mad Max (1979), leading to international stardom with Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) and the Lethal Weapon series (1987–1998). Gibson earned critical acclaim for The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) and Hamlet (1990). His directorial debut, The Man Without a Face (1993), was followed by the epic Braveheart (1995), which won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. He achieved further success with Ransom (1996) and Signs (2002). Gibson's 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, depicting the last hours of Jesus Christ, was a commercial hit but faced criticism for alleged anti-Semitism and historical inaccuracies. His 2006 film Apocalypto explored the Mayan empire's collapse. Following a series of personal controversies and a decline in his public image, Gibson returned to acting with Edge of Darkness (2010) and The Beaver (2011). He continued with action films like Machete Kills (2013) and Blood Father (2016) and ventured into comedy with Daddy’s Home 2 (2017). Gibson's directorial comeback with Hacksaw Ridge (2016), a World War II biopic, was critically acclaimed and earned him another Oscar nomination for Best Director.
