Her passion for acting was present from an early age, so much so that she dropped out of college to follow her dream of becoming a full-time actress. Her first roles included a small role as Wendy, Peter Pan's friend in Hook (1991) and as a tramp and con artist in Flesh And Bone (1993). Her career continued to progress being part of titles such as Jefferson in Paris (1995), Se7en (1995). Her first starring role was in the Jane Austen adaptation Emma (1996) and then she played one of her most notable roles as Viola, William Shakespeare's muse in Shakespeare in Love (1998), a role that won her an Oscar, a Golden Globe and an Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. Paltrow continued to choose varied characters to play, showing acting versatility in films such as Duets (2000), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Sylvia (2003). She demonstrated her talents as a singer in Country Strong (2010) and as a recurring guest in the musical comedy-drama series Glee (2010-11), for which she won an Emmy Award for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
