“It was only when I realized how actors have the power to move people that I decided to pursue acting as a career.” Cate Blanchet graduated from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1992 and immediately began to develop as a theater actress with several performances and awards in the field, a training and experience that gave her a wide range of tools that she would later exploit in her film career. Her debut was in the short film "Parklands" (1996) by Kathryn Millard and "Paradise Road" (1997) by Bruce Baresford was her first feature film, sharing the cast with Glenn Close and Frances McDorman. Just a year later she won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Actress for her performance in "Elizabeth", directed by Shekhar Kapur, becoming a popular and critically acclaimed actress. Her technique and influence would not cease to grow as she took on challenging and memorable roles in large-scale and independent productions. She is one of the few actresses to have won all four major awards: two Oscars, four Golden Globes, four BAFTA Awards and three SAG Awards. In addition, she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2023 she was named the best living actress by Rolling Stone magazine. She and her husband Andrew Upton are currently directors of the Sydney Theatre Company.
