Anthony Lucero is an American poet, screenwriter, director, actor, producer and journalist. He is the founder and co-creator of the circus outreach organization, Circus Remedy, as well as the independent publishing house, Putzina Press. Lucero is the author of the acclaimed, The Clown (Chiron Review Press), dear little missy (Putzina Press), and The Living Party, Selected Earlier Poems 1989 -2019 (Chiron Review Press). He has written several screenplays including GODOT, Trade, MOO BAAHAHH OINK, Halo of Stars, and an adaptation of Richard Brautigan's, A Confederate General from Big Sur. In late 2016, Lucero directed his first feature, Halo of Stars, based on his long poem, The Clown. The film stars Pål Sverre Hagen, Lily Collins, Holliday Grainger, Keti Mchedlishvili, Harry Treadaway, János Derzsi, Nikola Djuricko and Nutsa Kukhianidze. He is currently directing a documentary on Richard Brautigan, Here is Something Beautiful (etc., which he began in 2011. He has also been directing a longer reaching documentary, Tomás the Red Haired Angel, on the Czech clown Tomás Kubínek. In 2012, he directed two music videos for Emily Wells: Passenger (acoustic) and the largely animated Darlin' (acoustic). As an actor, Lucero has many films to his credit, including Loved (Independent Spirit Award nominee for Best Film, Grand Prix spécial Deauville nominee), opposite William Hurt and Robin Wright, Pump Up the Volume (Golden Space Needle Award at the Seattle FF, Audience Award at the Deauville FF), Silent Rain (Academy Award winning short) Molder of Dreams, and HBO's The Image. In 2006 Anthony co-founded the circus outreach organization, Circus Remedy (www.circusremedy.org). Circus Remedy has since made visits to ailing children worldwide, including children's hospitals throughout North America, The Children's Aid Society in Bronx, NY, orphanages in Tanzania and South Africa, Amma's (Mata Amrtanandamayi) hospitals and orphanages in Kerala, India, Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, CT, and IDP camps in Eastern Europe. Circus Remedy sponsors partner organizations such as Afghan Mini Mobile Circus in Kabul, Afghanistan, as well as Circus Harmony's ongoing collaboration with the Jewish and Arab Galilee Youth Circus in Israel. Circus Remedy has produced two short films, Bipsy Twirlarina and the Make Believe Kid and The Fable of Profitt the Fox, both for children's hospitals. In 2009, Circus Remedy introduced 'The Little Hands Project' to California schools, bridging healthy children to children with illness. In late 2015, Lucero co-created the independent publishing house, Putzina Press.
