Mr Adams joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera company as a tenor chorister in 1956, later playing the minor roles of 1st and 2nd Citizens in "The Yeomen of the Guard" and Frencesco in "The Gondoliers" (also recorded). Later he began to play the smaller principal tenor roles of The Defendant in "Trial by Jury" and Leonard Meryll in "The Yeomen of the Guard", whilst understudying the following larger principal tenor roles: Ralph in "HMS Pinafore", Frederic in "The Pirates of Penzance", Tolloller in "Iolanthe", Hilarion in "Princess Ida", Nanki-Poo in "The Mikado", Dick Dauntless in "Ruddigore", Fairfax in "The Yeomen of the Guard", and Marco in "The Gondoliers". After leaving the Carte in 1969, Mr Adams was frequently seen performing with the Gilbert And Sullivan For All Company, and later spent many years singing with English National Opera in London's West End.
