Born in North Carolina, Stephen Alexander grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio, a small Appalachian city. After graduating at The College of Wooster, he attended Illinois State University, where he received a Masters of Fine Arts in Directing. A true Renaissance man, Stephen makes his career from directing, music directing, composing, writing lyrics, and a full scope of theatrical practice. In 1995, he moved to Portland, OR, where he was honored with four consecutive Drammy Awards (Portland's "Tonys"), from 2001-04. From 2007-10, he served as Artistic Director at Grandstreet Theatre in Helena, MT, before moving back to Portland. Stephen was also honored as Best Music Director (2004) by the Oregon Theatre Alliance, and the 2006 Leslie O. Fulton Fellowship in Composing.
