“My movies are not movies of answers but of questions” Film director, screenwriter, and composer internationally recognized for the film "The Sea Inside" (2004), winner of fourteen Goya Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar for Best International Film. Passionate about images, literature, the terrifying, music, and death, the director has stated that his films show the influence of diverse literary and cinematographic sources, varying between genres such as thriller, suspense, intrigue, and science fiction. At least as far as his three favorite directors are concerned, Amenábar incorporates their stylistic aspects into his films, such as Hitchcock's way of creating an atmosphere of suspense, Kubrick's search for simplicity and precision when it comes to saying something, and as for Spielberg, he places himself in the spectator's position to make the film he would like to see. His feature film "Thesis" (1996) became his first great success, which marked the beginning of his breakthrough as a director with at least twenty awards under his arm and authorship of renowned titles such as "Open Your Eyes" (1997), "The Others" (2001) starring the acclaimed Australian actress Nicole Kidman and "Agora" (2009).
