Lisa Kimbell, (Lisa Applewhite Kimbell) is an American born actress, former model, former creator/owner/ writer and publisher for Vanity Inc. (Vanity Beach magazine Miami; Southern Vanity magazine Dallas) with various published articles and stories to her credits. Lisa is the daughter of 50's crooner and radio host Charlie Applewhite; a regular singer on the Milton Berle show. He also made frequent appearances on Author Godfrey and The Ed Sullivan Show; he was signed to Decca Records and MGM Records between 1953-1967. At the height of his career he gave a special performance for President Dwight D. Eisenhower at The White House Correspondents' Dinner March 6, 1954; He died April of 2001. Lisa Kimbell's mother, Patricia "Pat" Applewhite was talent manager and publicist in the 70's for various local artists as well as (The King Sisters, Burt Reynolds and Cathy Grahm) Pat died July of 2015. Lisa Kimbell graduated from The Arts Magnet High School for The performing Arts in Dallas, TX in 1983 where she studied Dance. Her love of ballet and jazz began at the age of 4 years old. After graduation she toured the state with a dance company. While performing at a supper club in Houston, TX. Lisa caught the eye of Greg Thompson, an award winning choreographer and producer of well known shows and large productions on the Las Vegas Strip, Atlantic City and Reno. Lisa was cast as a principal dancer in "Follies on Broadway" a tribute to Gershwin; Guys and Dolls, Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar. Her first acting job was as a featured extra in Ron Howard's Skyward starring Bette Davis and newcomer Susie Gilstrap, another featured extra as a police officer in Pray for Death with Lou Diamond Phillips. Lisa's first speaking role was in the lackluster comedy Paramedics in 1983 as nurse Helms...with co-stars Chris McDonald (Thelma and Louise) and George Young Newbern (Father of the Bride). followed by a starring role in the Pulitzer Prize winning play "The Effects of the Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds" by Paul Zindel, the film adaptation was directed by Paul Newman and starred Joanne Woodward. Kimbell's production was an off Broadway rendition of the famed play and she starred as "Ruth" originally played by a young Roberta Wallach. Lisa says "the role was the most frightening and challenging role of her acting career to date" as she had terrible stage fright doing live theater...and her role was extremely physical. Kimbell's character "Ruth" is an epileptic, and during one scene she had to throw herself down a flight of stairs during an epileptic seizure. Kimbell said "It was a difficult role for me physically as I had to do it night after night for weeks which left me with bad bruises and minor injuries." That would be her last stage performance. Her last film was the multiple award winning short film written and directed by Andrew Labrizzi (Beyond the Farthest Star, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell); A Pathlight Entertainment production starring a friend and fellow Dallas based actor Todd Terry (Breaking Bad, VINDICATION, Stillborn) Kimbell was cast as Barbara Winston, a gold digging selfish stepmother. Kimbell, now a freelance journalist, publicist and promoter writes articles, reviews and stories to promote projects and new releases for authors, music, film and television personalities. Lisa is married to Lewis Kimbell and they have no children and reside in a suburb of Dallas.
