Angelos Antonopoulos was born in 1932, in Piraeus, Greece. He studied at Theatro Technis (Art Theater) under the direction of Carolos Koun and made his stage debut in a 1962 Athens production of Aristophanes' "Ornithes". He then collaborated with many prestigious groups (including the Greek National Theater) and even created personal groups, playing in Tolstoy's "Resurrection" (as Nechliudoff), Luigi Pirandello's "As You Desire Me" (as Karl Zalter), Sartre's "Les mains sales" (as Hederrer), Ibsen's "John Gabriel Borgman" (in the title role) etc. He made his movie debut in 1964 and appeared in some supporting roles, before approaching screen stardom in the late 1960's, co-starring with Aliki Vougiouklaki and Jenny Karezi. He became extremely popular in the early 1970's, when he starred opposite Gely Mavropoulou in the phenomenally successful TV series Agnostos polemos (1971), written by Nikos Foskolos.
