Vivian Baber was a popular actress in the 1930s mostly on stage and screen. Her gorgeous looks, glowing shade of brown, and petite figure was a dynamic figure on stage. In the 1930s she was said to be one of the best actresses of the Black race. Vivian appeared in many popular stage shows in her almost 20 year career, performing alongside other greats like Fredi Washington, Canada Lee, Mantan Moreland, Noble Sissle. Her characters varied, she could play anything from a wicked woman to a naive, girl next door. In "The Black King" Vivian gave a wonderful performance as a naive young woman caught between two men, one good, one bad. She had poise, personality, attitude and a natural knack for becoming her character, enacting the right move, gesture, look, and speech in her roles - that's what made her a most have in any show and a audience pleaser. Vivian Baber is another unsung legend that very little is known about today. Hopefully, one day, her story will be told.
