John Ayldon performed as a bass-baritone with The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company between 1967 and 1982. His featured roles with the company were: Bouncer in "Cox and Box" Associate in "Trial by Jury" The Foreman of the Jury in "Trial by Jury" The Judge in "Trial by Jury" Sir Marmaduke in "The Sorcerer" Bill Bobstay in "H.M.S. Pinafore" Dick Deadeye in "H.M.S. Pinafore" Pirate King in "The Pirates of Penzance" Calverley in "Patience" Mountararat in "Iolanthe" Arac in "Princess Ida" Florian in "Princess Ida" The Mikado in "The Mikado" Sir Roderic in "Ruddigore" 2nd Yeoman in "The Yeomen of the Guard" Sergeant Meryll in "The Yeomen of the Guard" Phantis in "Utopia Ltd." The Prince in "The Grand Duke" John recorded the following roles in recordings made by the D'Oyly Carte and Decca, most of which are now available on compact disc: Foreman; Dick; Mountararat; Mikado; Meryll; Phantis; Prince. John's other theatrical performances since 1982 include: Firmin in "The Phantom of the Opera" (West End) Old Adam in "Ruddigore" (New Sadler's Wells, also recorded) Don Alhambra in "The Gondoliers" (New Sadler's Wells) Pooh-Bah in "The Mikado" (New Sadler's Wells and New D'Oyly Carte) Notary in "The Sorcerer" (Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company) The Sergeant of Police and The Pirate King in "The Pirates of Penzance" (Magic of D'Oyly Carte) The Mikado in "The Mikado" (Magic of D'Oyly Carte) Dick Deadeye in "HMS Pinafore" (Magic of D'Oyly Carte) and many appearances in concerts throughout the world.
