Andrei Catalin Baleanu studied at the Bucharest University for Theater and Film (IATC, now UNATC), and got there his degree in film directing at the beginning of the 1970ies. He participated at the collective creation "Apa ca un bivol negru", next to Dan Pita, Dinu Tanase, Mircea Veroiu and others. The movie was a starting point for the generation of the Romanian film directors of the 1970ies and 80ies. He directed and wrote with Stere Gulea, his close friend, the TV movie "Sub pecetea tainei", a poetical screen version of the book "Craii de curte veche", by Mateiu Caragiale. He is the author of two Dramas, "Muntele ascuns", 1974 and "E atat de aproape fericirea", 1979. In 1996 he played in the movie of Stere Gulea, "Stare de fapt". He is living in Bucharest, Romania.
