Something of a Rugby legend, Bill captained England 21 times in the early 1980s, before injury forced his retirement in 1982. He won 34 caps for England between 1975 and 1982. He was an inspriring captain, leading the North of England to victory over the New Zealand All Blacks in 1979, and leading England to their first Grand Slam for 23 years, in 1980. Following his retirement, he became a popular television commentator and personality, and is also the Managing Director of his family's textile business in Lancashire.
