John Dietsch is an award winning author, filmmaker as well as a guide, presenter and teacher. Dietsch is perhaps best known in fly fishing circles for supervising the fly fishing scenes on the Oscar winning film "A River Runs Through It," where he also conceived and executed the infamous final fishing scene doubling for actor Brad Pitt by swimming a rapid while playing a fish. His latest book, "Graced by Waters: Personal Essays on Fly Fishing and the Transformative Power of Nature" (recently published by Savio Republic and distributed by Simon & Schuster) explores how fly fishing can boil down life's most complex problems into the simplest of truths. John's first book, "Shadowcasting: An Introduction to the Art of Fly Fishing," won a Colorado Book Award. Dietsch has also appeared in or consulted on fly fishing TV commercials for brands like Mastercard, Miller Beer, Mild Seven, and T Rowe Price as well as the Netflix TV series "Ozark." He has fished and worked in over thirty countries and half the states. In addition, John has also written, executive-produced, or hosted hundreds of projects and over a dozen series or pilots for syndication and cable TV networks like Discovery, DIY and PBS, garnering over twenty awards. For example, John hosted and produced the Telly® Award winning prime-time TV series called "Adventure Guides: Fly Fishing Edition" airing on NBC Sports and Outdoor Channel for five seasons. In addition to his passion for the conservation of cold-water and inshore fisheries, John is now using his voice to highlight the mindfulness and healing qualities of the sport. John helps anglers and beginners alike to look inward using the sport and waters as a powerful conduit for change. As an inspirational speaker, John provides presentations, retreats and hosted trips across the globe. When he is not filming, teaching, guiding, writing, or enjoying time with his family in Pacific Palisades, California, he can often be found skipping out on desk-work to go fly fishing, according to his wife Mollie and two adult children, Johnny and Sally, who he lives with by the beach.
