James DuBose, founder and CEO of DuBose Entertainment in Hollywood, California, has spent 16 years in the television production industry and believes his creativity, determination, and ability to understand entertainment and quality programming have served him well throughout his career. DuBose, whose company has been signed to produce a new reality dating show for BET, broke into the business in 1991 as a production assistant in Los Angeles when he went to work for his mentor, veteran TV producer Brad Lachman. According to DuBose, Lachman took the ambitious young man under his wing and has since become his close friend and confidant. A native of Greensboro, N.C., DuBose graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in broadcast communication. After working for a few years in Los Angeles on various projects, DuBose relocated to Atlanta and began a two year stint as an associate producer for the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 1998, DuBose returned to Los Angeles to work on a new dating show "Blind Date," which was one of the first reality shows of its kind. It was on "Blind Date" as co-executive producer at Renegade 83 that DuBose further honed his producing skills and realized the time had come to launch his own production company. DuBose formed DuBose Entertainment in 2001 and began producing several reality and live action network and cable programs such as ABC's popular hidden-camera NFL half-time show "You've Been Sacked!" and the Sundance Channel's "House of Boateng." In 2006, DuBose was approached by BET and Interscope A&M Records to produce the highly acclaimed "Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is" reality show in which Cole, a budding R&B artist, chronicles her turbulent childhood in a six-part series. The show, which aired during the summer of 2006, was hailed for its gritty realism and garnered the second highest ratings of any BET program up until that time. As a result of that successful collaboration, DuBose Entertainment recently signed a deal to produce 65 episodes of his new dating show that will air on BET later in 2007. As a prolific producer whose credits include executive producer for "Bad Boys of Comedy" on HBO and "Super Agent" on SPIKE TV, as well as co-executive producer for "Most Outrageous TV Moments" for NBC and "The 5th Wheel," which is now in syndication, he is always exploring new concepts and ways to expand the DuBose Entertainment brand; the first being his record label, DuBose Music Group. DuBose recognizes the good fortune that has enabled him the freedom to create and enjoy his own brand of "quality, intelligent programs." A married father of two young girls, DuBose is enjoying the success he always knew he would achieve. "I have unwavering faith in God and myself, so I always knew that if I continued to do my part, God would truly take care of the rest," said DuBose from his home in the San Fernando Valley. "Too many people live for the day when they will 'arrive.' The trick is to enjoy the journey. That's the key."
