Born in Burbank, California, Jim Ervin's works as a composer, music supervisor, and producer have spanned four genres of the entertainment industry including, motion pictures, television, recorded music, and commercials. He was privately taught as a classical pianist from the age of five and participated both in his middle school orchestra and jazz band. He attended college at San Diego State University majoring in Psychology, while also performing in various bands and recording studios around the Los Angeles area. Jim's professional career as an arranger and orchestrator developed from working with companies such as Curb, Capitol, RCA, and Atlantic, and he quickly moved toward producing and composing. In 1998, he founded the production company, L.A. Entertainment, Inc., after seven years of working as a freelance producer and composer for the majors. Ervin went on to score works for television projects through CBS/Paramount, NBC, ABC, Showtime, All American Communications, and Merv Griffin Entertainment, Inc. These associations led to motion picture involvement both as a composer, music supervisor, and music consultant for companies including Sony Pictures, New Line, Columbia Pictures, Rysher Entertainment, Fox, Trimark, Turner/Warner, HBO, and Showtime, as well as commercial projects for agencies such as Suissa Miller, DDB Needham, J. Walter Thompson, Grey Advertising, among others. Jim runs a music supervision company, the Warrior Records label, a marketing & promotions company, and publishing entities all based in Hollywood, California.
