Roberto Canales Sanchez Leon was born in Mexico City, son of Colombian father and Peruvian mother. He studied a degree in Communication Sciences at the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey and specialization in Documentary at the International School of Film and Television in Cuba. As a producer makes, in co-production with FOPROCINE, "Blattangelus", feature documentary winner at the MIX Festival 2010 in Mexico City and also selected in more than 10 Festivals as: Biarritz Festival(France), MiradasDocs (Tenerife, Spain), Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia, DOCSDF, Chicago Film Festival and the Festival of Havana among others. "Rural City", his first feature film as director was recently selected to participate in the International Film Festival of Guadalajara, on March 30. He worked as executive producer, with his company made two theses for EICTV: "Xochiquetzal House" and "Taxi Libre" by Alana Simone, this one was the winner at Festival Contra el Silencio todas las Voces 2010. Currently produces "Aki estamos" a documentary by Alejandro Ramirez that in it's shooting stage. With over 15 years of experience in the media as a filmmaker he has specialized in digital video, a tool with which can experiment with different narratives and communication solutions; ranging from alternative campaigns, fiction, experimental, documentary and big events. He represented the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Banos Cuba for over 10 years in Mexico. He is the creator of the concept ro75 training center, audiovisual specialist center in Mexico City, where young independent filmmakers learn the "ability-creativity" formula. This training center has teachers with international participation as Belkis Vega, Rodriguez, Jorge Fuentes and Eric Goethals (Emmy winner), among others. In the film industry Roberto has participated in internationally renowned festivals as the Festival Ecofilms in Rhodes (Greece), Expresio;n en Corto (Guanajuato, Gto.), The Telluride Film Festival (Colorado, USA), International Festival of Valladolid (Spain), The Film Festival (Bogota, Colombia), the Tampere Film Festival (Finland), among others. In 2008, with his fiction shortfilm "If I die far from you" starring by Martha Aura, ran a successful international festival circuit with more than 10 official selections, winning the "Espiga de Plata" in Valladolid, Spain. Roberto has been coordinator and consultant of various creative audiovisual projects for internationally recognized brands as Yazbek, KPMG, LG, Canon, Walter Thompson, Firestone, Grupo Salinas advertisers, Glaxo, Abbott Laboratories, Schering Plough, IFA, CAPUFE, SFP, SSP , CFE, SEGOB, Move You, SCM, Cadbury Adams and more.
