Composer, bandleader, conductor, songwriter, arranger and trumpeter. After a high-school education, he became a freelance arranger and trumpeter from 1927 to 1945, and then until 1964 conducted the orchestras for many network and local radio and television programs, and also made many records. Joining ASCAP in 1957, his popular-song compositions include "Midnight Oil", "Sliphorn Sam", "La Valse", "Frantic Fiddles", "Gambler's Ballet", "Little Genius Ballet" and "Gabriel's Heater".
